Welcome to Hafla

What we do: HAFLA is a Registered Charity working towards greater understanding between Muslims, Jews and communities connected to the Middle East living in the UK.

We bring together Muslims, Jews, Arabs, Palestinians, and Israelis, and all people who are committed to sharing, learning and celebrating our diverse heritages, for education, social action and celebration.

Our aim is both to improve relations between these communities and to improve relations between these communities and the rest of UK society.  Through cultural events, social action activities and educational projects, we hope to contribute to a more cohesive and empowered society of informed citizens.

Our Name: The word 'HAFLA' is common to both Arabic and Hebrew and means 'celebration' or 'party'. It has a particular connotation as the third stage of the peace process that comes after the stages of truce and reconciliation.

Our Vision: We aspire to a world where each of the Middle East's many peoples acknowledge, love and respect each other. We have therefore focused our efforts so far on creating events that provide a platform for artists from many disciplines to express their vision of life in this part of the world, and for our audiences to share in this cultural feast. In addition, we have recently started working on an educational project in schools and community centres, in collaboration with another not-for-profit organisation that has amassed considerable experience in this field (Psychosemitic).

HAFLA is delighted to announce that we have now been granted Charitable Status by the Charities Commission. Registered Charity Number: 1124326. Company Limited by Guarantee incorporated in England. Registered office: Trojan House, 34 Arcadia Avenue, London N3 2JU.
