London Middle East culture festival

Alongside our various events Hafla is planning to establish an annual Middle Eastern Cultural Festival of Coexistence. We are joining forces with many other organisations to put together a large scale event that brings together the vibrant and diverse cultures of the Middle East through music, art, food, dance, seminars and exhibitions.

What's the plan?
The festival will take place in a range of venues across the Capital with activities including performances, art exhibitions, food celebrations, discussion forums and spiritual and religious workshops. It will open with an outdoors celebration with food and live performances and close with a major concert.

What for?
The current context of cultural identity for many is often one of fear and the need to protect and defend one's community. By creating the Hafla Festival we hope to shift this context to one of celebration, co-creation and sharing. It is our intention that this festival will build bridges between individuals and communities through inter-community and interfaith dialogue, cultural and artistic education through celebration, sharing and co-creation. Giving people of all backgrounds the opportunity to learn more about the vibrant and diverse cultures of Middle Eastern communities present in the capital, and have a great day out.

Why London?
The extraordinary diversity of communities in London makes it ideally placed to host such a festival. This Festival is an opportunity for people of all backgrounds to express their commitment and passion for the social richness and variety of this great city. We believe that now more than ever it is vital for the different sections of our society to be able to embrace our common humanity.
